WMATA tests online language translation service

advertisement

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is testing a new service designed to translate the authority’s Web site content into six different languages.

Internet users can view pages in Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, German and Korean by clicking on the flag representing a language.

During the six-month test period — which ends in May 2004 — WMATA will conduct online surveys to determine whether the translation quality is sufficient for users to understand content meaning, according to a prepared statement.

WMATA might add more languages at the end of the test period, depending on user feedback, language availability from vendors and cost.
