On Sept. 7, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will begin overhauling two platform-to-mezzanine elevators at the Metro Center Metrorail station.
Modernization of the 28-year-old elevators is scheduled to be complete in mid-November.
The project includes replacing all critical components, including cabs, pistons, doors and control panels. The overhaul will improve the elevators’ reliability and extend usable life by 30 years, according to a prepared statement.
