WMATA to complete expanded New Carrollton yard project next year
advertisement
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently announced plans to open a new rail yard, and expanded shop and inspection (S&I) facility at the New Carrollton Rail Yard in January 2006.
The expansion is necessary because WMATA’s ridership and fleet needs continue to increase, according to a prepared statement. The $70.4 million project includes building a new 20-car S&I shop and expanding loop tracks to increase maintenance capacity on the Orange Line. The authority started the project early last year.
