WMATA to purchase track geometry vehicle
advertisement
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) board recently granted preliminary approval to purchase a track geometry vehicle.
The vehicle will enable the authority to conduct more comprehensive and frequent track inspections, and locate areas where major repairs are needed.
Currently, WMATA tests its 106-mile rail system five times a year with a special ultrasonic testing machine to detect cracks or other flaws. In addition, track inspectors visually examine the system twice a week.
