WMATA to strive for environmental certification on new, rehabbed facilities
advertisement
Last week, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority board approved a resolution that calls for all new and substantially rehabilitated facilities to be designed and built with the aim of receiving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
A rating system created by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for designing, constructing and operating high-performance green buildings. LEED facilities cost less to operate and maintain, are energy and water efficient, and healthier and safer for occupants, according to a prepared statement.
