WMATA's service reliability on the rise
advertisement
In December, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) officials announced plans to implement back-to-basics customer service and service reliability initiatives. Five months later, the efforts are beginning to pay off.
The authority has improved service reliability 34 percent since December. Last month, officials recorded an average of six train delays exceeding four minutes per weekday compared with nine delays per weekday in December.
Also, the authority’s mean distance between failure improved 42 percent to 53,213 miles in April compared with December’s 37,430 miles.
WMATA officials attribute the improvements to recent track improvements, including the installation of new switch equipment, rail and surfacing work, and the purchase of new passenger cars.
