WSDOT seeks input on transportation improvement program

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is soliciting public comment on a draft of its four-year Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) through Dec. 17.

The draft 2020-2023 program features more than 1,200 multimodal transportation improvement projects using $3.4 billion in federal funds.

The STIP includes railroads, highways, streets, roads, transit hubs, park-and-ride lots, bridges, sidewalks, bike lanes, ferry terminals, trails and safety projects.

WSDOT develops the program annually from local agency, metropolitan and regional transportation improvement programs, department officials said in a press release.

Projects identified as using Federal Transit Administration or Federal Highway Administration funds must be included in the draft STIP.

The WSDOT will send the public comments to the respective local agency metropolitan or regional planning organization for their consideration.

The comment period is the final step in of a public engagement process that began locally during development of the individual transportation improvement programs, WSDOT officials said.
