Wabtec Corp. recently obtained a $100 million contract to supply components for MTA New York City Transit’s (NYCT) R-160 subway cars.

Wabtec subsidiaries will supply brakes, couplers, current collectors, door operators and related equipment, door panels and event recorders for 620 cars the agency ordered under its first contract option with Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. and ALSTOM Transport. The cars are scheduled to be delivered during the next two years.

So far, NYCT has ordered 1,280 R-160 cars from ALSTOM and Kawasaki, and has an option for an additional 420 cars. Wabtec already has supplied components for the base order of 660 subway cars.
