For the sixth-consecutive year, Burlington Northern Santa Fe has received Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s Rail Carrier of the Year Award.

BNSF is the only railroad that's ever received the award, which recognizes a road's ease of doing business, communication and collaboration, responsiveness and on-time performance.

"Providing a full range of transportation solutions, from box car to transload to intermodal to refrigerated services, BNSF is able to help Wal-Mart mitigate pressing cost issues driven by the new hours-of-service regulation, fluctuating fuel prices, driver shortages and rising insurance costs," said Tom Plowman, BNSF director of consumer products sales, in a prepared statement.

One of BNSF's largest customers, Wal-Mart has grown at an annual rate of 15 percent during the past four years.
