The American Association of Railroad Superintendents (AARS) would like to help a couple of good students finance their education.

Through the Frank J. Richter Scholarship program, AARS awards up to two $1,000 scholarships annually. The scholarship is named for Progressive Railroading co-founder Frank Richter.

To be eligible for a scholarship in 2007-08 academic year, applicants must:

• Be enrolled at the time of application as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. Preference will be given to those applicants enrolled in the transportation field, although all applicants will be considered.

• Demonstrate successful completion of the previous year's study by maintaining at least a 2.75 accumulated grade-point average on a scale of 1 to 4 with an "A" equal to 4.

• Accumulate enough credits from accredited school(s) in time for the fall semester to attain at least a sophomore level standing at the college or university of enrollment.

Applications must be sent to the president of AARS and postmarked no later than July 15, 2007, for consideration for the fall term. Candidates will be notified by Sept. 1.

Applications are available through the AARS Web site www.railroadsuperintendents.org or the AARS Office, P.O. Box 456, Tinley Park, IL 60477. For more information, call 708-342-0210.
