Wichita welcomes new grade separation
advertisement
Yesterday, state and local leaders held a ceremony in Wichita, Kan., to dedicate a new $105 million grade separation.
The project, which began in April 2005, involved the construction of eight miles of new track and several new bridges, widening of one bridge and installation of a Centralized Traffic Control system.
The grade separation reduces highway-rail accidents by elevating BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad trains above street traffic, eliminates traffic delays, and reduces air pollution and noise along the local rail corridor, Wichita officials said in a prepared statement.
