advertisement
Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Co. (WSOR) is getting closer to completing the installation of welded rail in its Madison Subdivision.
Earlier this month, crews installed 14 miles of welded rail between Milton Junction and Stoughton, Wis. Workers now are laying ballast and tamping track for final alignment before winter.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission and WSOR jointly funded the project. The railroad’s corridor between Milton and Madison, Wis., is jointly owned by the state of Wisconsin and transit commission.
Welded rail helps reduce maintenance costs and enables the track to accommodate heavier rail cars, according to WSOR.
