The Sacramento chapter of the Women in Transportation (WTS) recently named California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) Deputy Director Carrie Pourvahidi the 2008 "Woman of the Year."
The award honors a woman "who is an outstanding role model and has contributed to the advancement of women and minorities in transportation," according to WTS. Pourvahidi was recognized for her "outstanding contributions to the regional transportation community."
A 10-year CHSRA veteran, Pourvahidi currently oversees the statewide high-speed rail project's program management team, as well as preliminary engineering and environmental efforts currently under way on the Sacramento-to-Los Angeles segment of the proposed system. She joined the authority in 1998 as chief fiscal officer.
