Last week, the United Transportation Union (UTU) announced it organized two short lines.
Train and engine-service workers at Watco Cos. Inc. subsidiary Stillwater Central Railroad voted in favor of joining the UTU.
The 275-mile short lines operates a mainline from Snyder to Sapulpa, Okla., and retains trackage rights for a BNSF Railway Co. line to Tulsa. Stillwater Central also operates a branch line from Stillwater south to Pawnee.
Meanwhile, Progressive Rail Inc. workers also voted in favor of joining the union.
Progressive Rail operates 45 miles of track in Minnesota, as well as a number of branch lines — many over leased track — near Minneapolis/St. Paul, south of the Twin Cities and in western Wisconsin.
