YardVision may help ramp managers keep an eye on rail cars

Transentric June 6 introduced YardVision™, software designed to enable yard managers to more accurately determine rail-car location, as well as better plan and manage yard inventory.
YardVision would track in-yard rail-car moves, including cars headed inbound, outbound or toward storage, or those undergoing inspection, or being loaded or cleaned.
The software is designed to reduce a yard’s operational costs — such as switch charges and demurrage fees — and improve customer-service capabilities for yard managers, who could send customers switch lists via email, electronic data interchange or fax.
St. Louis-based Transentric, a subsidiary of Union Pacific Corp.-owned Fenix Enterprises, designed YardVision as an Oracle database written in JAVA and HTML languages. The software provider plans to market YardVision as a tool that can improve car cycle times and shipper/consignee inventory management programs.
