Midwest Industrial Supply: Glidex MC rail lubricant

Midwest Industrial Supply Inc. has released Glidex MC, a new synthetic rail lubricant that lasts longer and reduces friction more effectively than its existing product, the company said.

Glidex MC’s improved chemistry contains a special metal conditioner that reduces oxidation and exhibits residual properties, making the lubrication treatment last longer than it previously did. The product also inhibits metal corrosion to ensure smooth switch operations for better transportation, according to a company release.

Designed to last a long time in any type of environment, Glidex has been used for switches in rail yards, steel mills, mining sites, and other locations where metals collide. The product can be applied in temperatures as low as -40 F, the company said.

Unlike traditional graphite-based technology that can be harmful to the environment, Glidex MC exceeds all environmental standards, including the California Protection Agency’s compliance regulations, the company said.

An independent lab study showed that Glidex MC reduced friction up to 30 percent more than its predecessor. The tests also suggested that Glidex MC could reduce friction even more with repeated use and as the metal conditioner takes effect, according to the company.
