Pentair has introduced the ERICO CADWELD PLUS line of exothermic welded connections for trackside and railway applications. Exothermic welded connections are recognized for their low electrical resistance, durability and longevity, Pentair officials said in a press release. These connections also are immune to thermal conditions which can cause mechanical and compression joints to loosen or corrode.Introduced in 1938, the ERICO CADWELD exothermic welded connection has established itself as the "ultimate connection" for rail, company officials said. In addition, ERICO CADWELD exothermic connections are widely used for power, grounding, electrical bonding and cathodic protection applications. ERICO CADWELD PLUS was developed to simplify the method of installing exothermically welded electrical connections to rail and railway properties. This system features an integrated welding material package which streamlines the installation process through: • current carrying capacity equal or greater than that of the conductor; • elimination of starting material; • improved delivery systems; • color coded welding material; • dependable electronic control unit with replaceable leads; and • visual and easy inspection of the finished connection.ERICO CADWELD PLUS satisfies the compliance and regulatory requirements of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
