Laird: Transport Locomotive Control Unit

Laird has introduced the Transport Locomotive Control Unit (LCU), a space-saving solution for industrial rail applications.

The new product is installed inside the locomotive and serves as the controlling system for remote wireless control movement of a locomotive through a rail yard. The Transport LCU pairs with either the wearable Paddle or Toggle Operator Control Unit (OCU) regardless of the operator's location in the yard, Laird officials said in a press release.

"This really is an ideal solution for customers looking for an entry-level remote control throttle/brake system in their industrial yards where safety, size and cost are the primary concerns," said Chris Cremer, director of sales for Laird Controls in North America.

There are several safety and productivity benefits associated with having remote control operation. For example, remote control operation enables an operator to make safer decisions based on situational awareness that can't be achieved from inside the cab of the locomotive.

The Transport LCU features a compact, single-cabinet design that requires less space inside the locomotive. The product also can be installed easily to reduce maintenance and downtime.

Laird also offers a full range of communication and remote control components and products aimed at enhancing worker safety and operational efficiencies.
