Protran: Roadway worker protection system

Protran Technology offers an "Enhanced Employee Protection Warning System" (EEPWS) to meet the Federal Railroad Administration's recommendation calling for redundant signal protection for roadway workers.

The system includes a series of failsafe confirmations and warnings in real-time from the dispatcher, employee in charge and track workers. The technology informs dispatchers when workers are safely outside work-zone limits.

"In short, the system would prevent unprotected working limits and eliminate dispatcher error," Protran officials said in a press release.

MTA Metro-North Railroad and New Jersey Transit have begun using the system and will be piloting an additional geo-fence feature early next year. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will be employing EEPWS in the next three to six months, Protran officials said.
