Railhead: Video recording systems

Railhead Corp. offers remote monitoring capabilities along with "industry proven" video systems for locomotives, cab cars and track vehicles, according to the company. Railhead has more than 5,500 systems installed on Class Is, short lines, light-rail networks and commuter-rail systems worldwide.

Railhead's high-definition IP system supports up to sixteen cameras and delivers what the company terms as "the clearest video quality on the market." Railhead's LDVR-HD is Mil-Spec, FRA and SAE rated for durability and reliability in harsh railroad environments. The company's LDVR-HD recorder is designed to provide "superior" video streaming capabilities, is wireless-ready and will integrate with crash-hardened memory modules and event recorders to support the LDAR requirements.

The LDVR’s hosted Real-time Remote Diagnostic Monitoring software analyzes and detects anomalies on vehicle component behavior, and uses this information to identify the health and status of both the individual component and the possible impact that this behavior may have on the vehicle and to the overall fleet.

The company's Maintenance Management Planning and Scheduling allows  organizations to maintain and manage the cost effectiveness of their assets by improving asset reliability, work utilization, resource and capacity planning while reducing operating costs.

Railhead's Component Condition Monitoring is a full featured comprehensive condition monitoring system for vehicle components, including wheelsets, axles and brakes. The system provides a comprehensive condition monitoring capability — identifying and reporting on specific defects and wear detection while automating maintenance planning. The system also provides a combination of both ground-based software and interfaces to track side devices and handheld measuring devices.

The Planning and Performance Management (PPM) software uses timetable, actual vehicle location and real-time diagnostic information to help identify the root cause of delays and plan trips for optimum performance. Through a combination of trip planning and improved driver awareness, the PPM system also is used to maximize energy/fuel efficiency and manage engineer behavior. In addition, the system provides the operations team with in-service recommendations when fleet failures occur to reduce delays and penalties.

Railhead's "service-proven and scalable" software offers eight years of forward and backward compatibility, the company says. All video is encrypted to ensure authenticity and has a user-friendly Vehicle Information Back Office Software for fleet-wide management. Railhead also works OEM and aftermarket suppliers to integrate and factory install its systems. In addition, the company offers custom solutions.
