The Model MS-200 rail base grinding machine is installed at the runout conveyor of a flash-butt rail welding machine for removing the remaining overthickness due to a weld burr after stripping. It is possible to produce a rail having a smooth underfoot face over its complete length, the company says. The vertical grindstone moves longitudinally by means of a wheel-mounted carriage alternatively actuated in rail direction by the operator during grinding operation — the rail being stopped as the weld reaches the grinding machine. When the rail is advancing on the conveyor, the grindstone is retracted.
