GE Transportation: 2 I-Based Solutions

GE Transportation

LOCOCOMM is an integrated on-board computer (OBC) and communications management unit (CMU) that serves as the basis for GE Transportation's Information-Based solutions. The unit is coupled with a multimode communications antenna package that gives customers wireless data transmission capability from locomotives on the move.
LOCOCOMM is designed to host a variety of GE or third-party applications on its industry-standard “Wintel” platform. GE Transportation's current locomotive application suite includes: Expert-on-Alert, PinPoint, LocoCAM and Smart Fueling (described below).
Expert-on-Alert (EOA) is an advanced and continuous-learning remote monitoring and diagnostic (RM&D) solution designed to reduce the isolation portion (troubleshooting) of every locomotive maintenance dollar. EOA keeps locomotives out of the shop and fixes them the first time, the company says.
PinPoint is an integrated locomotive tracking and monitoring application designed to maximize locomotive utilization. Beyond basic GPS information, PinPoint provides embedded geo-fencing capability, locomotive status information, complex dwell measurements and user configurable notifications.
LocoCAM is a forward-looking integrated video recorder system designed to aid in accident investigations, protect railroads from fraudulent claims and increase safety. LocoCAM provides real-time health and tampering information to ensure system availability, the company says.
Smart Fueling uses real-time burn-rates and levels from the train, off-board operational information and complex learning algorithms. Smart Fueling constantly updates the fuel plan for each train. The benefits of Smart Fueling include reduced average fuel cost per gallon, increased train velocity, the elimination of fuel depots and automated DTL auditing, the company says.
LiteCOMM is a GPS-based system designed to provide tracking and monitoring of industrial, yard and short-line locomotives. The wireless capabilities of the system enables improved crew utilization, reduced maintenance labor and increased fuel savings, the company says.
