TTCI says one of its greatest strengths is its ability to accurately model the behavior of rail vehicles, components, track, structures and systems. These models are used routinely by rail industry engineers and designers in the development of new vehicles, suspension systems, trackstructures, brake systems, bridges and other critical railroad components. They are designed to allow users to find solutions to difficult technical problems that would otherwise require costly full-scale tests. Data collected during full-scale testing at the Transportation Technology Center, as well as onrailroads, is used to build, refine and validate models that are used to predict behavior under a variety of conditions.
