ASF-Keystone's reduced slack coupler system minimizes free slack and cushion slack available within a stand-alone train consist. The coupler combines the versatility of a coupler head connection with the benefits of the ASF-Keystone Articulated Connector, the company says. The reduced slack coupler features a 100,000-pound preloaded gear that prevents longitudinal cushioned slack movement for both buff and draft loads under normal train operation. The Miner gear incorporates the proven TecsPak material. The ASF-Keystone reduced slack coupler eliminates up to 2.5 inches of free-slack (worn condition) per coupler connection, the company says. The result: a reduction of in-train coupler forces for various train events, such as emergency braking, run out (acceleration) and run in (dynamic braking).
