Developed over three decades ago, these valves were designed specifically for use on automatic bottom dump hopper cars. They are widely used on rail cars that haul coal, aggregates of many sorts plus other types of bulk materials. Temperature extreme as well as shock and vibration testing was performed on them to make certain that they were "railroad tough," the company says. The valves feature a "sliding shoe" design to operate the directional control function of the valve. The company offers additional safety/security features such as its patented "integral safety check." This device is designed to help prevent inadvertent actuation of the door opening system. This product line is now obsolete but can be directly replaced by our Second Generation Series valves.
