HOTSTART offers a locomotive and industrial battery charger. The KBC model is a permanently installed system requiring no battery disconnection. The unit is available as an option on all HOTSTART locomotive idle reduction systems. The battery charger is manufactured with complete solid-state circuitry with no meters or gauges, requiring no maintenance, the company says. The charger continuously monitors the battery's voltage levels. The automatic voltage-controlled charging adapts to voltage and power adjustments. Other features include status display lights that indicate three modes of operation. A “power” light indicates AC power is on and a “charge” light denotes low batteries that are charging at five amps or more. The third status light, “full” signifies batteries are fully operational and maintained with a small charge current less than five amps.
