EngineAir introduces new camshaft segments for eight-, 10-, 12- and 16-cylinder EMD diesel engines. Each segment is manufactured from bar stock using the computerized engineering and production technology. Each segment lobe is digitized, using specialized electronics, to eight decimal places for profile and timing accuracy. Using the same equipment, the finished camshaft segments are measured to guarantee design specifications are maintained in the finished product. The segments then are heat-treated by carburizing and case hardening, a process which produces a uniform case depth regardless of lobe dimensions, the company says.
