Caterpillar provides modern diesel-engine packages in the 800- to 6,000-horsepower range. These packages, designed for repower or new power application, offer a new level of power, performance, life and operating efficiency, the company says. Caterpillar also offers a programmable electronic engine control. This digital, microprocessor-controlled system controls engine speed, horsepower, wheel slip and generator load. The system automatically shares load between multiple units and interfaces with existing locomotives with no changes.
