The EMD 710ECO™ Repower solution updates older units with the latest locomotive engine technology, designed for lower emissions, increased fuel economy, greater reliability, and predictable costs. It offers better than EPA Tier 2 performance and is eligible for clean air funding — with up to 25 percent fuel reduction and 50 percent lube oil savings, the company says. The EM2000 microprocessor-based control system operates engine diagnostics, maximizes all-weather tractive effort, and includes an automatic engine start stop (AESS) system. The software can be tuned for future emissions compliance. The EMD 710 engine has a 20-year record of reliability in rugged locomotive applications, with overhaul cycles over 15,000MWhr, the company says, adding that its 90-percent parts commonality with existing fleets reduces spares inventory and simplifies service procedures.
