When working in a high-production gang that utilizes tie inserters, the horizontal scarifier 34 and one operator can scarify up to five beds per minute, the company says. The head design enables the machine to scarify the right amount of ballast for easy tie insertion to reduce both tie bed disturbance and tamping requirements. The optional hydraulically powered cable winch for tie insertion serves as a backup to the tie injector.
