Bombardier Transportation: Metro Cars

Bombardier Transportation

Bombardier Transportation has recently supplied next-generation metro cars to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), MTA/New York City Transit, and to the Toronto Transit Commission. The cars for Chicago are the first in the CTA's fleet to utilize alternating current (AC) propulsion, a technology designed to permit dynamic braking regeneration, lower energy and maintenance costs, and improve reliability, the company says. The cars for Toronto are the first in North America to feature open gangways, allowing riders to walk freely from one end of the train to the other. The Toronto cars also offer improved safety and security features, including end-of-train evacuation ramps, the company says. New metro cars for Montreal and San Francisco BART are being manufactured and introduced into revenue service.
