The Western-Cullen-Hayes Model WCHT-72 switch machine is a compact, electro-hydraulic machine that utilizes a quad-coil spring package designed to ensure switch-point closure. It is a trailable, dual-control switch machine designed to operate in most switching areas, such as car classification yards, receiving and departure yards, rail transit system yards, industrial facilities, and flat switching and rail storage yards. It has fast operation — about 1- to 1-1/2-second duty cycle, depending on the stroke. The handle can be padlocked directly to the machine case and is used for machine lockout. The switch machine is reversible in mid-stroke. If the duty cycle does not complete itself within an adjustable time period, it is designed to automatically reverse and return to the starting position.
