The Timken® AP-2™ bearing represents the next generation of the AP™ bearing. It is designed to provide improved service life under heavier loads, and less flexure between components and axles, reducing fretting wear and the potential for components to loosen. The improved HDL™ Seal design provides the lowest torque in freight car service, the company says. In addition, the AP-2 bearing has fewer parts in a more compact design. The seal wear rings have been eliminated, eliminating fretting wear grooves under the seal wear ring and the need for subsequent axle repair by plating.
