The Optical Rail Inspection and Analysis (ORIAN) system is a Microsoft Windows-based rail measurement system that mounts directly to a track geometry car, grinding machine, hi-rail vehicle or revenue vehicle. The system comes in various configurations for collecting and dimensionally measuring the rail at speeds up to 175 mph. The system provides output of rail can/rollover, rail head wear, rail flange wear and lip flow in real-time on the track geometry car. Versions of ORIAN are capable of measuring gauge, conicity, check/guard rail and third/conductor rail and coverboard position and wear. The system also provides rail contour information for rail profile grinding and planning. System output is compatible with other planning software including PXView, RAILIFE, GAMS, GPS, RAILVIEW and RANGECAM Suite.
