An integral component employed onboard the locomotive for data collection is a rugged, high-performance and versatile intelligent router responsible for data collection and transmission: the SIBAS Remote Data Access Train Router (RDA-RT V3) or the Communication Train Router (mCom-RT) from Siemens. Both devices provide encrypted train-to-wayside communications and internal communications between onboard subsystems; receive and distribute GPS data; perform time synchronization; allow for process monitoring; have a built in web-server; support subsystem specific applications for video, driver advisory, energy meter plotting, passenger information, etc.The RDA-RT is an “all-in-one” device with every conceivable communication, data and physical interface used for onboard train operations: serial, Ethernet, CAN, MVB, PC/104, USB, GSM/GPRS/UMTS, GPS, WLAN, GSM-R, LTE, CDMA and analog/digital I/O. Where specific applications need to be targeted, the mCom-RT provides a modular, scalable device to “package” the desired communication, data and physical interfaces in a cost efficient configuration with a small footprint. As part of Siemens Smart Monitoring and Smart Data Analysis product suite and proven in revenue service on locomotives in the USA and around the world, the RDA-RT and the mCom-RT from Siemens are two integral onboard components that enable remote data collection and transmission to optimize asset availability through state-of-the-art data analysis.
