The FR304E is the third-generation ASF-Keystone rotary dump coupler system, which has performed on thousands of coal cars. Easy to assemble and disassemble, it features spherical buff and draft surfaces that prevent hang-ups during dumping, require fewer parts and save about 50 pounds per assembly, the company says. It operates with 25, 5/8-inch draft gear pocket; the same striker casting can be used on both car ends — fixed or rotary. The yoke contains stops to prevent draft gear release forces from clamping the coupler. The F-type connection is eliminated, permitting a stronger shank structure. The ASF-Keystone rotary coupler does not require a heavy yoke dead carrier casting; it uses standard AAR support channel and has a recessed coupler shank wear plate with flame hardened butt end wear surfaces.
