This defect detection and announcement system consists of rail-mounted infrared scanners, wheel detectors, a microprocessor-based data analysis unit, a digitized speech processor, radio, power supplies, cables and a system enclosure. The system is designed for stand-alone operation, communicating directly with the crew of the train being scanned, but has the capability for central reporting and interface to Amtech automatic car identification equipment, the company says. The modular system is easy to install and maintain, the company says.
