VORTOK International says energy consumption on turnout heaters can be reduced by fitting its snow displacers in the heel of the turnout. The special closed-cell foam inserts are designed to prevent snow build-up in the section of the switch with small movement leaving only the toes to be heated. 30-percent less energy usage whether electric, gas or hot air systems, the company says, adding that the snow displacers have been proven effective at temperatures down to minus 40 F/C. They take only minutes to install, require no tools or modifications to the turnout and can be left in place all year round, the company says.
