SKF USA Inc.: Tapered Bearing Units

SKF tapered bearing units (TBU) are unconditionally AAR-approved under certificate 23 & 30. Standard inch sizes are available from 4-1/4 by 8 Class B through 7 by 12 Class G along with locomotive Class GG sizes. Metric sizes are also available. SKF says the bearings exceed AAR minimum requirements by adhering to stringent SKF requirements for steel cleanliness, hardening and heat treatment processes, micro-geometry and quality control procedures. All TBU sizes require no field lubrication. All units come with the Premium low torque seal and the extended fit axle-saver wear ring, which helps reduce the axle grooving and eliminate the need for expensive axle plating, the company says. Polyamide cages are also offered and have been proven to increase safety and performance, the company says.
