Rail Industry Component:
Progress Rail, MOW Division: Tie Crane Flail Mower

Progress Rail, MOW Division

The flail mower is designed for attachment to the boom of the company's tie cranes for clearing and mulching of undergrowth and brush growing on the right of way. A cutter box consisting of a high-speed rotary drum equipped with cutter blades can cut brush up to 4 inches in diameter. It is essential for clearing sidings and areas where clearance is a problem for larger brushcutters and sensitive areas near road crossings, buildings, etc., where projectiles might be a hazard, the company says. It provides a convenient method to spot treat problem brush on mainline, the company says. Available in 36- and 48-inch cutter box widths.
