Rail News: Safety

Coalition promotes rail safety in California city

advertisement

A coalition of representatives from railroads, education organizations, and city, state and federal agencies recently combed neighborhoods in Fresno, Calif., to promote rail safety.

Coalition members from BNSF Railway Co., Union Pacific Railroad, the San Joaquin Valley Railroad, Federal Railroad Administration, California Public Utilities Commission and Fresno Unified School District visited businesses to discuss rail safety, hand out literature and hang promotional posters. Typically, railroads and other stakeholders distribute information about rail safety at grade crossings as motorists and pedestrians pass through an area.

The coalition aimed to provide a way for cities in the Fresno area and a rail safety team to work together more efficiently to promote safety.
