Operation Lifesaver, Mexican railway association to coordinate safety education

Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) and the Association of Mexican Railroads (AMF) have agreed to cooperate on educational ways to prevent collisions, injuries and fatalities on and around track and grade crossings, OLI announced late last week.

Under the cooperative agreement recently signed by both organizations, OLI will provide strategies and examples for educational materials, and AMF will coordinate Mexican railroads and other stakeholders to implement the rail-safety campaigns, said AMF President Jose Zozaya in a press release.

AMF's membership includes freight and passenger railroads, as well as rail industry suppliers in Mexico. OLI's mission is to eliminate collisions, deaths and injuries on rail right of way and at crossings. OLI uses a network of trained volunteers to provide rail-safety presentations.

"We are delighted to welcome the Association of Mexican Railroads to the Operation Lifesaver program, and we look forward to working with them to raise awareness of the need for safe behavior around tracks and trains throughout North America," said OLI President and Chief Executive Officer Joyce Rose.

Other countries with cooperative agreements with OLI for safety programs include Argentina, Canada and Estonia.
