The Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI) today launched is first online program for hazardous materials training with five educational videos that provide an overview of hazardous materials regulations.
Dubbed "Fast Class," the videos range in length from four to seven minutes of viewing. The video library is an extension of the SLSI's hazardous materials training program offered at no cost to short lines, institute officials said in a press release.
"During the more than 50 training events SLSI has hosted, each with multiple sessions, several topics have regularly risen to the top in the form of frequently asked questions and discussion during the classes," said SLSI Executive Director Tom Murta. "We've created five videos that can be easily accessed to assist railroads in providing training that enhances what is already available on the railroad."
Each video addresses a standalone topic and can be viewed in any order. They deliver helpful training during a time when in-person training opportunities are limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said John Walsh, director of SLSI's hazardous training programs.
