Alaska Railroad to provide community hazmat training during tour

This week, Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) is sending railroad emergency response and safety workers on a train tour to eight communities to provide hands-on training to local emergency response teams.

Workers will give presentations and demonstrations on how the railroad transports chemicals, emphasizing what responders can expect to encounter and what they can do in case of emergency.

"It’s a chance for communities to learn what chemicals are transported through their areas and how the railroad manages the risks associated with those transports," said Marc Peterson, ARRC’s spill prevention and emergency response manager, in a prepared statement.
