Connecticut DOT to begin rail crossing upgrades on PW line

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will replace railroad crossings on the Providence and Worchester Railroad (PW) line at Hartford Avenue, Jordan Lane and Wells Road in Wethersfield in late August and early September.

The area near the crossings will be fully closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic for 48 hours. Each crossing will be rehabilitated separately, and only one roadway will be closed at a time, according to a CTDOT news release.

The tentative start date for the project is Aug. 25, with each phase taking two days.

The construction project is being partially funded under a CTDOT Rail Freight Improvement Program grant with additional investment by the PW, a unit of Genesee and Wyoming Inc. and the operator of the rail line.

“These projects ensure the freight line through Wethersfield remains in a state of good repair and addresses roadway surface concerns across the tracks,” said CTDOT Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Benjamin Limmer.
