Two new MxV Rail test tracks are now open. The tracks are engineered to help rail-car manufacturers collect data and validate their newest models.
Based in Pueblo, Colorado, MxV Rail now offers a curving performance track (CPT) and a suspension resonance track (SRT). An Association of American Railroads (AAR) subsidiary, MxV provides modeling, simulation, testing and evaluation services for rail vehicles.
The CPT is designed to evaluate the curving performance of vehicles and features 3- to 12-degree curves for testing turn capabilities and traction ratio testing. The track can be used to study how vehicles’ wheels interact with rail and ensure they meet AAR standards.
The SRT is a multi-use testing track with three separate zones to test rail cars over known track defects. The first zone tests the pitch and bounce of a vehicle and the second zone measures the twist and roll of the wheels. Trains can perform tests at speeds from 10 mph to 70 mph. The third zone can be customized to complete yaw and sway testing.
“These tracks are not just about meeting standards; they are about developing new ones,” MxV officials said in a press release.
