The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has honored Metra's Operation Lifesaver team with the Rail Safety Leadership Award.

The association bestowed the award at its May 26 leadership forum in Washington, D.C. The AAR highlighted the team's efforts to educate a variety of audiences in northeast Illinois about the dangers of disregarding grade crossing warning devices and trespassing, Metra officials said in a press release.

The team is made up of Metra Police Lieutenant Tom Donegan and Public Safety Coordinator Larry Green.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Metra has been recognized by the AAR for safety best practices.
