BNSF conducts passenger-rail training session
advertisement
BNSF Railway Co.'s police department recently hosted a passenger car training exercise in the Class I’s Riverbank, Calif., yard.
Amtrak donated a passenger car, and BNSF provided a locomotive and crews. About 35 local law enforcement officers attended the training session, which included both classroom and hands-on exercises.
The session offered presentations on how to conduct emergency shut-offs, locate entries and exits, remove windows, rate window ballistics, avoid couplers, detect high-voltage wiring, conduct evacuations and disable a train in an emergency.
BNSF plans to hold more training sessions at which the railroad might simulate a hostage situation, terrorist attack or other emergency situation.
