CHEMTREC celebrates 40th anniversary in September

This month, CHEMTREC® is marking its 40th year of operation as a chemical emergency response service. A service provided by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), CHEMTREC operates a 24/7 emergency call center that provides critical response information after accidents and incidents involving chemicals, hazardous materials and dangerous cargo. The public service hotline is available to fire fighters, law enforcement officials and first responders.

“When faced with an incident involving hazardous materials or dangerous goods, emergency responders need access to reliable information and assistance immediately,” said CHEMTREC Managing Director Randy Speight in a prepared statement.

During the past 40 years, CHEMTREC has grown and enhanced its services beyond emergency incident response, such as by serving as a company’s crisis communications service and providing mass emergency broadcast services during a crisis, according to the ACC.

“CHEMTREC’s reach also has expanded internationally in the past decade. In response to demand from the numerous chemical manufacturers that operate around the globe, CHEMTREC takes calls from anywhere in the world and provides translation in 180 languages to assist callers during an emergency,” ACC officials said.

CHEMTREC is a sponsor of the Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER®) program, which aims to help communities prepare for and respond to haz-mat transportation incidents. The Class Is also are involved in TRANSCAER.
