Canadian Pacific is estimating that service to its corridor between Kamloops and Vancouver, British Columbia, will be restored sometime mid-week.Progress is being made with about 20 separate sections of track across the region already cleared or repaired, CP officials said in a press release."We are working closely with local and British Columbia authorities to coordinate the delivery of critical materials, equipment, food and fuel as CP crews work to safely restore service," they said. “That includes the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to assist in getting highways reopened as soon as it is safe to do so.”CP and CN last week suspended rail service in parts of the province after heavy rains, severe flooding and subsequent mudslides wreaked havoc on infrastructure.
Meanwhile, CN announced today it is making a donation of CA$100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of relief efforts to aid flood and extreme weather victims in British Columbia.
“I would like to thank our employees and disaster relief personnel who have been organizing evacuations, delivering medical equipment and escorting health care workers to stranded sites since the beginning of the floods," said CN President and CEO JJ Ruest in a press release. "This donation will help provide much needed shelter, essential goods, emotional support to thousands of stranded residents, and help rebuild once the waters recede."
